Review: Rocketing on the Nami Island Zipline

One of the items on our bucket list for our trip to South Korea was to ride on a big zipline – and after doing our research we were pleased to discover that we could ride one of the biggest ziplines in South Korea at Nami Island, which was also on our itinerary to visit.

The Nami Island Zipline is one of the top adventurous activities to experience in South Korea.  I speak from personal experience that this is an amazing experience where you travel on the 940m long zipline from Nami Island Wharf to Nami Island from the top of an 80m / 262 ft high tower across the Han River at speeds up to 56 km/hr or 35 mph! You can see some video footage of my zipline ride in the below video.

Having never actually been on any ziplines before, when we arrived at Nami Island it was a bit daunting to realise what we were going to do.  It is not every day that you plan to ride along an almost 1km piece of wire at great heights!  But having now I done it I would definitely recommend this thrilling experience to you when you visit Seoul.

Below is our detailed review of the zipline experience on Nami Island so that you know what to expect if you also want to ride it yourself.

How to Book Your Zipline to Nami Island

Your options to book your Zipline Nami Island ticket are to either travel to Nami Island yourself using public transport, or book into a day tour option from Seoul which includes the option to ride the Nami Island Zipline.

We booked to do the Nami Island Zipline as part of a private day tour where we visited Nami Island, rode the Nami Island Zipline, rode the Gapyeong Rail Bikes, visited The Garden of Morning Calm and Petite France. Alternatively, you can book the Nami Island shuttle bus through Klook to travel direct from Seoul to Nami Island and return.

Click here to book your Nami Island Return Shuttle Bus transfer from Seoul through Klook. You can separately purchase your zipline ticket after you arrive, which includes Nami Island entry and the return ferry ride.

If you prefer to travel to Nami Island using public transport check out our detailed article on how to get from Seoul to Nami Island.  The Nami Island Zipline price is 44,000 Won ($US37) per person, which includes a one way zipwire ride to Nami Island, your Nami Island entrance fee and the return ferry (details correct at July 2020).

Note that you should plan to book in early as a queue will usually build up in peak periods.  If you are travelling on a tour your driver will make the arrangements on your behalf, which should enable you to skip the queue.

If you are planning to ride the Nami Island Zipwire in winter ensure you are very warmly dressed – the island is covered in snow in winter.

Jara Island Zipline

There is also a second zipline from the same starting tower to Jara Island which is shorter but faster – it is 650 m long and can reach a top speed of 72 km/hr or 45 mph!  From Jara Island you can catch a ferry to return to Gapyeong Wharf – note that with this option you will still need to separately purchase your Nami Island ticket.  Or perhaps you can just ride on both ziplines!

Getting Started on the Nami Island Zipline

After filling out the waiver paperwork and then waiting anxiously in the reception we were ushered to the elevator to travel 80 meters / 262 feet up to the Nami Island zip wire departure point.

A spectacular view awaited us as well as some nerves seeing how big a trip we had ahead of us!  Our older two children are more adventurous than our youngest son, and he was feeling quite anxious about the experience.

After waiting and watching the group ahead of us get strapped in and depart, we felt more confident about the safety measures being observed, and excited about the experience ahead.  We were able to carry our daypacks in a pouch which sits under the chair sling.  If you plan to carry a camera then you must have a wrist strap or selfie stick, so ensure you plan ahead.  The staff provided a safety briefing in English.

Riding on the Nami Zipline

Tony and our oldest son were the first to go, then our daughter, and last was our youngest son and myself.  Once we were strapped in we were on our way, zooming across the river far below at up to 35 km/hr / 22 mph!

As I am heavier than our son I quickly overtook him and enjoyed the ride to Nami Island – it felt very enjoyable zooming along the zipwire and I slowed down as I approached the landing platform and was then unstrapped by the staff.  Our son was so light that he stopped before the platform and had to be hand pulled to the platform to be unstrapped.

I really enjoyed the experience as we headed towards Nami Island, finally coming ashore and our experience was at an end.  If you have the opportunity I would definitely recommend that you include the zipline in your Nami Island visit!

After we all arrived we quickly then headed off to explore Nami Island for a couple of hours before having to catch the return ferry and then meet our driver to have lunch and then head off to ride on the Gapyeong Rail Bikes.
