Start Here to Plan Your Visit to Uluru

Visiting Uluru (or Ayers Rock) in the center of Australia is a top bucket list destination for both Australians and international visitors to Australia.

Due to Uluru’s remote location most visitors fly to Uluru and then need to decide where to visit, how to get around and where to stay. We have put together many articles to help you plan your visit! For those of you driving longer distance to get to Uluru, we also have lots of great information to help you plan your visit.

Note that Uluru currently has reduced tourism capacity – flights, hotel accommodation, rental cars etc due to COVID19. This capacity is planned to progressively increase over the next 6-12 months, but ensure you check availability for each item before booking.

We are Anne and Tony Sutherland-Smith, local Australians who currently live in Sydney and long term travel bloggers who love to help people plan their travels with confidence!

Map of Uluru in Australia

Below is a map of Australia with Uluru – for those unfamiliar with Australia, the only way to get to Uluru by road using a two wheel drive vehicle is on the Stuart Highway or parallel train line which runs north and south between Darwin and Adelaide. Therefore, from any more populated area in Australia in the coastal areas it is a very long trip by road.

There are Four Wheel Drive vehicle alternative routes, however even through they may be more direct and shorter distance they will typically take longer time wise than the standard highway options.

Our focus is on options to fly in and out of Uluru and Alice Springs Airports, and using standard vehicles to get around the area. Check out our detailed article on how to get to Uluru, which includes flights or road trips to either Uluru or Alice Springs, and details of how to either hire a car or campervan or use buses to get around.
