The websites referenced below will provide you with information on which vaccinations you need, and the next step is to see your doctor to discuss options to obtain the vaccinations.  Some vaccinations require 2-3 injections over a period of 3-6 months to complete the course, whilst others only require a single injection.  You should book an appointment with your doctor as soon as you have finalised your travel plans to put together a vaccination plan for your specific destination.

Vaccination Starting Point

If you only want to read one website to obtain information about health risks and vaccinations recommended and required for your trip, I recommend the UK site National Travel Health Network and Centre as the best presented comprehensive information.

Vaccinations should be recorded in the yellow International Vaccination Record Book as the official record of vaccinations you have received.  Ensure you get a yellow book started to record all of your vaccinations.

Vaccination Detailed Information

The World Health Organization (WHO) provides guidance on immunizations, but the responsibility is given to individual countries to provide formal advice.

For United States citizens, Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) – Vaccinations provides an excellent overview about vaccinations.  CDC – Destinations provides country specific information on vaccination requirements and recommendations.

For Canadian citizens, The Public Health Agency of Canada refers citizens to the USA CDC – Destinations website.

For UK citizens, National Travel Health Network and Centre provides map based search to your destination countries with excellent information about recommended vaccinations.  This website also provides advice on how to minimise other health risks while travelling to your destination country.

For Australian citizens, The Travel Doctor provides excellent information on which vaccinations are recommended for your particular travel destination.

For NZ citizens, Travel Essentials – Country Reports provides excellent information about recommended and required vaccinations for your destination country.
